Track record of selection in Small and Medium size Enterprises
We have a 100% track record in helping SMEs find new and replacement packaged software.
We have helped many different organisations with package selection. Just a few examples are shown below. We have also worked with many larger businesses, click here to see some examples. Click here to find out more about our approach to selection projects.
Our experience with helping smaller businesses select packaged software includes:
- A manufacturer of specialist electronics. The company was split into two locations: a sales office and a warehouse. It used subcontractors and needed to implement traceability to individual serial numbers. There were two obvious packages to choose from and either would probably have been effective. The Managing Director found the selection process to be valuable, though, because it gave him the vision to see how he could cut costs and improve service using the new software.
- A distributor of specialist pumps. We were brought in initially because the company was fed up with its existing system and needed a new one. However it became apparent during the initial meeting that the company had not made much effort to implement the software. We were convinced that it could meet the company's needs so we turned down fee-paying work and introduced the company to another consultant that specialised in the existing software. He then worked with the client to reimplement the package successfully. Our philosophy is to tell you if we can't help.
- A property company. Property companies are unusual because they deal in large amounts of money but they employ relatively few people. That provides some challenges. buy in is particularly important. Also property companies vary considerably in the way they are financed and in what they do, so they are no good targets for packaged software. We could not find a suitable package but we were able to negotiate to buy a copy of the software run by a similar company and arrange to have it supported by the original developers. An innovative approach that allowed our client to implement an effective system for a fraction of the cost it would have taken to develop it from scratch.
- A software company. Ironically, helping a software company to select a software package proved to be one of our most difficult assignments. We had to take particular care over explaining that, although packages are rarely a perfect fit, they cost far less and can be implemented far more quickly than software built from scratch. Also, packages are usually more flexible. The assignment was a success and the company went on to implement the chosen package to better manage its software projects and to implement a new policy for revenue recognition.
