Track record in reviewing IT
We show below a few examples of how we have helped clients through IT reviews.
If you have an opportunity you would like to discuss with us, please get in touch. We'd love to hear from you.
An insurance company
We reviewed a proposal to use advanced technologies to develop new systems for the company. We identified a number of issues that had to be addressed before giving the go ahead to the proposal.
A manufacturing company
The Board was concerned that a new HR system might not be secure. We reviewed the system expecting to find that all necessary precautions had been made. In fact we found a major security hole that justified the Board's concern.
A large national trade union
We were asked to review the IT function and advise on how best to ensure it could meet the needs of the union. We were able to recommend several initiatives designed to:
- Establish adequate levels of service
- Improve the way projects were authorised and managed
- Cut costs
- Reduce system complexity and improve manageability.
Due diligence reviews
We have undertaken a lead/IT expert role in a number of due diligence reviews for both international and national accounting firms including:
- The acquisition of a national container leasing firm by a subsidiary or a large international bank.
- The acquisition of a national outdoor pursuits retail chain by its major competitor
- The acquisition of the cash handling operation of a large bank by a currency trading company.
- Investment by an 'angel' in a software company that had developed a product for developing web sites using advanced web and database technologies
In each of these cases we have been able to reduce acquisition costs and/or identify issues that had not previously been considered. In many cases we have helped to overcome obstacles raised by lawyers, accountants, banks or other investors.
Year 2000 issues
While other companies were cashing in by creating fear and uncertainty over year 2000 issues, we took a different approach. If the client was unlikely to encounter issues - we said so. Where issues were possible we helped with short reviews designed to identify issues or prove internal processes had been effective. Where clients had definite issues we looked for simple ways to by-pass them; where this was not possible, we helped create replacement system projects focused on reducing costs and/or improving services rather than just tackling year 2000 issues.
